Salted Paper Printing Workshop

Next session to be announced.

The salted paper printing method was developed by Henry Fox Talbot in the 1830’s as the earliest photographic printing process. An emulsion of salt and silver nitrate hand painted onto paper and exposed to sunlight produces a range of beautiful brown tones. This process is the predecessor of all silver based printing processes! Join photographer Chris Calohan for an all day workshop on this historic printing method.

Each image is handmade. You will learn to mix your chemistry, mask your negatives, coat your paper, make an exposure with sunlight/UV lamp, fix and tone your photograph.

All materials are included. You will need to bring several analog negatives of any size (35mm, 120mm, 4”x5”, 5”x7”) or digital negatives up to 5” x 7”. If you don’t have negatives already, we can help you create some digital negatives from some of your favorite images prior to the workshop.

Saturday, 10:00am - 5pm, (break for an hour for lunch)

$180

Limited to 6 students.
