Studio Flash 101

Next session to be announced.

This class is all about using flash in a studio environment! We are excited to offer this class for the first time, with a new instructor, Jonathan Duty.

The first class in this five-week series will lay the foundation, discussing the properties of light and how it moves and interacts with the subject and its environment. We’ll also explore the functions of the most common studio lighting tools, concentrating on strobes and their modifiers. Subsequent classes will build on the first, with demonstration of lighting techniques followed by hands-on exercises utilizing a variety of light shaping tools.

In order to get the most from this class, you should already be proficient with the manual use of your camera, using shutter speed, aperture and ISO to obtain a proper exposure. You should also have a working knowledge of your camera’s flash controls including the use of on-camera flash.

Equipment Required: any DSLR or mirrorless camera with hot shoe (top-mounted flash port)

Optional Equipment: If you own a Godox or Flashpoint trigger for your particular camera, please bring it as well, as the lights we’ll be using for this series are Godox.

Thursday evenings, 6:00-8:00pm, $200

Taught by Jonathan Duty
